It seems every ten years or so the Wrangler turns a page and updates to a new model. Soon after the first of this year, the most recent incarnation of the Wrangler, Model JL, started adorning show rooms. As we get our first looks (and experiences) we’ll post up.

The scene was Jeepers and Jeeps everywhere. The sea of purple shirts are members from the South Pointe Off-Road Club, just one of several enthusiast groups in attendance.

Turn out was just fantastic. You’d be hard pressed to see everything as the show spilled out packing four or five lots with Jeeps coming and going throughout the day.

Jeeps are cool because you can park them like THAT!

Hard to believe but it’s now ready for order with deliveries expected Q4 2017, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk joins the Hellcat pantheon of horse power deities.

Jeep Pickup Delayed to 2019

Yet to be named, the Wrangler based pickup from Jeep is set for production debut in 2019. Like the current F-150 from Ford, it’s rumored to make greater body use of strengthened aluminum. An optional 300 hp 4 cylinder turbo is also rumored for improved fuel economy. Jeep vacated the pickup market with the conclusion of the Jeep Comanche in 1992.

Not finishing the course? Ah… this one will only get a participation award. Oddly enough this does illustrates two important points in wheeling.

1. Know your vehicles capabilities. In this case the breakover angle, a measure typically in degrees that describes the maximum angle from horizontal at front & back wheels for the rise & fall of the ground where the body or frame will still not touch the ground (AKA center over high, or high center).

For the stock XJ pictured breakover is 21.7 degrees (less if heavily loaded). For the ramp to achieve that shallow an angle, it would have to be made a lot longer. The better approach would be to lift the hell out of the Cherokee (With Jeeps, always the right answer… right?)

2. Never-Ever-Freaking-Ever Wheel Alone . Alone? Got stuck? Congratz! N’uff said.

We all know Jeep makes some of the most capable vehicles in the world but be smart and know the capabilities before putting them to the challenge and avoid the stuck or even worst (gasp! breakage)

Just one more obstacle lending unquestionable rational for a lift, bigger tires, winch and a buddy on the trail with the same.
