Big Cypress Trail Reopennings

Per National Park Service:
OCHOPEE – Big Cypress National Preserve is pleased to reopen the closures from the Anhinga Wildfire. The following areas are open immediately: Pink Jeep, Gator Head and Bear Island Campgrounds. The opening also includes the following roads and trails:

  • Bear Island Grade Trail
  • Perocchi Grade Trail
  • and Bear Island Campground Road

    These areas are now open to safe recreational use including hiking, hunting, ORV, and camping.

    Easter Jeep Safari
    March 24 – Sunday, April 1

    Event Announcements

    Easter Jeep Safari is one of the premier National Jeeping events and is hosted by Red Rock 4-Wheelers. The event includes several day long trail rides in the Moab area and is a showcase for manufactures to introduce products and concepts.

    Event registration is $50 per vehicle per day. Individual ride reservations are made seperately.

    Big Cypress Trail Reopennings

    Per National Park Service:
    Big Cypress National Preserve is pleased to reopen the closure from the Kirby Prescribed Fire. Prescribed fire activities for this area have been cancelled. The following area is therefore immediately open: Monroe South Trail located south just off US 41/Tamiami Trail and Loop Rd. at Monroe Station. This area is now open for safe recreational use including hiking, ORV’s, and hunting.

    The Leprechaun Wildfire is currently 75 percent contained.

    Per National Park Service:

    • Big Cypress National Preserve has issued an emergency closure for the Anhinga Wildfire which is currently at 518 acres and 5% containment. During the closure, all recreational use including hiking, hunting, and camping will be prohibited in the designated areas.
    • The closures include the following areas: Pink Jeep, Gator Head and Bear Island Campgrounds. The closure includes the following roads and trails: Bear Island Grade Trail, Perocchi Grade Trail, and Bear Island Campground Road. The closures will take effect immediately.

    • Big Cypress National Preserve has issued an emergency closure of Bear Island Campground to promote visitor safety during wildand fire activity. During the closure, all recreational use, including hiking, hunting, and camping will be prohibited in the designated area.
    • Closure effective immediately.
