Something really big is brewing out there in Punta Gorda
In an otherwise quiet field, earth moving equipment is busily shaping the course for the Gone Country Jeep Weekend at Red Neck Yacht Club. Jim Thompson of Savage 4×4 invited Motive Image for a sneak preview of the course last weekend.
Dirt cores being piled into place. Rock and concrete chunk layers to be added to provide challenge once forms are finalized.
From the work already in progress and plans shared the obstacle field will be the biggest with the most formidable challenges laid down in Florida for Jeeps (so bring some spare parts or arrange to have your favorite shop have them on hand)

With out giving too much away, there will be three courses. For drivers looking just to get it off pavement, there will be trails. Some easy and of course some not so easy. A moderate course will be available for built-up rigs (33″ and up). Expect the stock and trade obstacles for traction, off camber and entry & departure angle challenges.

Want more of a challenge? Try the advance course – larger hills, less traction, more extreme angles, bigger & meaner rocks and of course more opportunities to slide it, bounce it and wedge it in like you’ve never done before.
Checking out one of the hills. Throw down some rocks, culvert and concrete and let the grunting begin.
And if that doesn’t get your brag on then give the colossal three face climb a try. The hill is expected to be a 30+ foot structure clad on three sides with different materials to offer three serious difficulty levels to work through.
RYC, and event sponsors are all working together to make this a marquee event for all of South Florida and has already drawn considerable attention from area clubs with attendance expected to be high even for even a first year.
