While Mobil’s long running flagship product, synthetic Mobil1, is currently not MS-6395 certified, three other motor oils in the Mobil prooduct line are.

The first two are straight conventional oils derived from mineral spirit (base stock groups ii and iii). The last, advertised as “synthetic” may be manufactured from group iv stock (synthetic base oil), but more likely is a highly refined group iii oil or a blend that includes group iii and iv.
Base stock is usually a good indicator of an oil’s quality but is only part of the the performance story. The additives package that makes up the rest of the formulation brings critical properties that allow the oil to perform well and consistently under a variety of torturous conditions. Super Synthetic while clearly a premium oil is subordinate in performance to M1, except in one regard, it’s MS-6395 certified. For those who favor Mobil products and insist on a MS-6395 compliant fill this might be your oil. |
